The US Senate passed a bill Monday night to reopen the government after the longest shutdown that lasted 40 days. Crypto in America journalist Eleanor Terrett revealed that the amended appropriations bill now heads to the House for approval.
“I thought they wouldn’t finish until later tonight, but they ramped that shit up. They want out of this town,” Terrett posted on X, citing a source.
Senate approval of the deal (60-40) will move to a House vote on Wednesday, before heading to the president’s desk for his signature.
President Trump told reporters Monday afternoon that he supported the deal, describing it as “very good.” He is expected to sign the legislation as soon as the House acts.
Prediction markets flood with bets to end government shutdown
Market Prediction Polymarket predicted on Monday that the lockdown would end soon this week with a probability of 96%. Meanwhile, rival Kalshi’s odds rose from just 43% last week to 92% on Monday.
Justus Parmar, CEO of venture capital firm Fortuna Investments in Miami, predicted the U.S. shutdown will end this week.
“The good news is that, as long as there is no disaster, I think the government will reopen this week,” he told the BBC. “They still need to get some approvals… but finally, for the first time in 40 days, this looks like the best opportunity to open the government.”
What it means for cryptocurrencies
News of the Senate agreement on US lockdown optimism sparked a 6.7% rise in Bitcoin on Monday. The largest cryptocurrency rose to $106,000; However, prices retreated as traders made profits.
With Bitcoin still down 11.85% in 90 days, traders continue to quickly lock in profits amid fragile sentiment. BTC is currently trading at $105,333 at the time of this publication, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
Ethereum (ETH) showed a slight jump to $3,636 before falling to $3,550, while Ripple (XRP) rose over 2%.
