The president of President Trump’s CFTC, Brian Quintenz, claimed that Tyler Winklevos tried to derail his confirmation after Quintenz refused to promise a favorable treatment with respect to the previous litigation of the exchange with the commission.
According to private text messages published by Quintenz on September 10, Winklevos shared the 13 pages of Gemini against the Inspector General of CFTC in an exchange of July 2025.
He affirmed that the agency pursued “charges of doubtful false statements” and the application of “selectively and unjustly armed” against the company.
Winklevos described seven years of “trophy hunting of the law” for the commission in the leaked messages.
Transparency claims
Winklevos questioned why the CFTC demanded Gemini instead of “parties that disappointed us of $ 10mil” or CBOE. He also questioned why the commission continued to chase Gemini “after knowing that his investigation began based on a false complainant.”
Quintenz constantly refused to make specific commitments, stating that “any decision or response to your complaint must be taken and given the total weight of the confirmed chair.”
He promised only to address the affairs “totally and fair if I am confirmed”, while emphasizing the importance of the proper process.
Winklevos then expressed his disappointment that Quintenz had not reviewed his complaint despite the previous discussions.

In addition, the co -founder of Gemini emphasized that “the cultural reform, which includes rectifying what happened to us, should be the highest priority” and urged Quintenz to align with the mandate of President Donald Trump to end the regulatory war.
Quintenz explained his approach to waiting for confirmation before forming judgments. He added that he decided to “wait until he can enter the paper to obtain that opinion instead of trying to obtain it now through current leadership.”
He described having “a very poor experience with that on each topic or important decision so far” when it comes to the existing commission staff.
The launch of the message occurs two days before Gemini’s planned IPO on September 12.
Quintenz said Winklevos contacted Trump in an effort to stop his confirmation for reasons not revealed after his exchange.
He added that he revealed the discussions with Winklevos to protect the president from erroneous information and demonstrate his commitment to transparency about personal progress.
