According to reports, innocent people and companies have been trapped in crossfire, since Thai banks froze millions of suspicious accounts of being “mules” for scammers during the weekend.
National repression began in August, and weekend reports suggest that banks have frozen three million accounts and imposed daily transfer limits to all banking clients in the kingdom, according to reports.
However, the Cyber Crime (CCIB) Crime Investigation Office reported Sunday that the bank accounts of innocent vendors and merchants are also freezing after the scammers adopted new methods for washing the stolen money, according to The Bangkok Post.
Meanwhile, the Bank of Thailand warned that more people could face freezing as the authorities expand the dragnet and investigate mule accounts.
“We urge the public not to panic. The suspension is only temporary and will rise once the checks do not confirm irregularities,” said the Ministry of the Digital Economy and the Ministry of Society, Wisit Wisitsora-AT on Monday, and added that commercial banks can suspend the suspicious funds for up to three days, while the police can extend the suspension to seven days.
The Bank of Thailand only froze 3 million bank accounts during the night and is limited to transfers to $ 1.3K– $ 5.5K/day to fight the scams.

Thai Central Bank in Conversations for Alternative Solution
The limits of 50,000 Baht ($ 1,570) were imposed in August for all banks throughout the country in response to a fraud wave at the call center with scammers that use mule accounts to wash money.
Some merchants have stopped temporarily accepting QR payments, while account holders are withdrawing funds for fear of possible freezing.
In the midst of a growing public concern, the Central Bank Thai has maintained discussions with the CCIB in an alternative solution for the freezing process of the account and the transfer limits for the holders of respectful accounts of the law.
